The Clean Electricity Investment Tax Credit provides a 15% refundable tax credit on capital investments in renewable energy, energy storage, and non-emitting electricity infrastructure. Targeted at non-taxable entities such as Indigenous communities and municipally owned utilities, the credit aims to drive job creation, economic growth, and the adoption of clean energy.
learn moreEnhanced Capital Cost Allowance
The Canadian Income Tax Act offers accelerated Capital Cost Allowance (CCA) benefits for clean energy generation equipment, such as solar power systems. Solar systems fall under Class 43.2, allowing businesses to deduct 75% of their costs in the first year. This provision helps businesses quickly recover their investments in clean energy infrastructure.
learn moreClean Energy Improvement Program
The Clean Energy Improvement Program provides an innovative and accessible financing option for residential and commercial property owners looking to invest in energy-efficient and renewable energy upgrades, including solar. Offering competitive rates that cover up to 100% of project costs, this program helps property owners reduce utility bills, increase property value, and conveniently repay the financing through their property tax bill.
learn moreBanff Solar PV Rebates
The Town of Banff offers a Solar Rebate Program to encourage residential and commercial property owners to install solar photovoltaic systems. Participants can receive post-installation rebates of $750 per kilowatt (kW) of solar capacity, with a maximum rebate of up to 20 kW. This program supports both residential and commercial solar energy projects.
learn moreLight Up Alberta – Solar Club Loyalty Program
The Solar Club package provides residential, farm, and small commercial customers in Alberta with flexible rates for selling surplus energy, along with 2.0% cash back on imported electricity each year. Customers can choose between a high-export rate of 30.00 ¢/kWh or a low-export rate of 12.50 ¢/kWh during cloudier months.
learn moreMicro-Generation
Alberta's Micro-Generation Regulation allows homeowners, small business owners, and farm operators to generate their own renewable energy to offset consumption while staying connected to the electrical grid. Any excess electricity produced is sent back to the grid, earning a credit toward future bills. The credit rate for excess power generation is pre-negotiated with your energy retailer and can vary depending on your provider.
Net Metering
The BC Hydro Net-Metering program allows for a generation capacity of up to 100kW. Your smart meter monitors both the electricity you use from BC Hydro and any excess power you send back to the grid. Any surplus energy is credited to your next bill, and if you have remaining credits on your anniversary date, you’ll receive a payment based on the current market price.
The Fortis BC Net-Metering program enables residential and commercial customers to generate renewable energy and reduce their electricity costs. A dedicated meter tracks both the energy consumed and any surplus sent to the grid, with excess energy credited for future bills. To participate, customers must use renewable sources like solar or wind, install equipment on-site, and ensure the system’s generating capacity does not exceed 50 kW.
The District of Summerland’s Distributed Generation Program allows residential customers with small, renewable or low-carbon energy systems (such as solar or wind) up to 30kW to connect to the Summerland Distribution System. This program offers a net-metering option, enabling customers to offset their annual electricity usage, with any surplus energy purchased by the District at the wholesale rate.
Energy, Energy Conservation and the ICE Fund Tax
Under the latest rebate program, materials and equipment designed for energy conservation—such as those preventing heat loss from buildings—are exempt from the Provincial Sales Tax (PST). This includes solar photovoltaic collector panels, as well as the wiring, controllers, and devices that convert direct current into alternating current, provided they are purchased alongside the solar panels. This PST exemption encourages BC residents to make environmentally conscious upgrades and energy-efficient choices in their homes.
